- The customer selects an item to purchase from the website by clicking on a PayPal "Buy Now" payment button next to the ebook described. This links the customer to PayPal via a secure connection.
- The customer enters his/her payment information on a secure PayPal-hosted page that shows the name of the ebook being purchased. The easiest method of payment is to use funds from an existing PayPal account, or create a new PayPal account (it takes about 3 minutes to set up a new account, and is absolutely free) or to use a credit card without having a PayPal account.
- When the customer completes the payment, either using funds from an existing PayPal account, or funds from a credit card, PayPal instantly processes the transaction by routing it through the payment processing network.
- Once the payment is processed, the customer is returned to a page on the dpdotcom website, from where the ebook file can be downloaded.
- This last step is very important - the download page has a large dark blue and yellow "Download your ebook from here" banner across the page and is distinct from the other pages on the site. The customer will see the cover of the ebook they have purchased, and they should click on the cover to download the ebook file.
